interventions

Michael strongly believes in the benefit of carefully chosen interventional pain procedures as one component of a holistic, multimodal strategy for the management of your chronic pain.

Prior to undergoing any procedure, Michael will carefully assess your suitability for the procedure as well as the likelihood of achieving significant pain relief.

Michael performs interventional pain procedures at St John of God Hospital, Ballarat.

Pain conditions that Michael may treat with interventions include:

  • Chronic back pain

  • Chronic neck pain

  • Chronic headache

  • Chronic shoulder pain

  • Chronic knee pain

  • Chronic hip pain

  • Failed back surgery syndrome

  • Radicular pain

  • Neuropathic pain

  • Persistent post-surgical pain

  • Complex regional pain syndrome

Interventional pain procedures that Michael performs in theatre are varied, but typically involve targed administration of anaesthetic agents and steroids to specific nerves as well as electricial modulation of nerves (radiofrequency denervation).  The aim of these procedures is to reduce the transmission of pain signals to the brain.
